Superman

Superman
Lois, if anyone knows what it's like to be on the outside, I do. Sometimes I feel like I'm out there fighting all alone. Sometimes I feel like giving up. But, then I remember that what I stand for is more important than anything else.

My Super Hero- Silver Light

Hey Guys! So I've been working on my own superhero as of late. Here is the basic skeleton. I'm hoping to have some sketches on by early this week and am also hoping to have at least one comic strip up as well. Please comment.

Silverlight
Abilities
·         Creation and Manipulation of Fire
·         Super Strength
·         Super Speed
Origin Story
Silverlight was once the Crown Princess Josephine. Her family ruled over the proud and noble house of Fierca. Her kingdom was one of peace and prosperity until the day her exiled uncle came knocking on her door leading an army of hundreds of thousands of beings from the underworld. Her father’s army did not stand a chance and as the fight came to a close it was only her and her father who remained. Her father has her go through the secret passage in the castle beseeching her to go seek her mother. He fights of the evil beasts long enough to see her go safely. He dies at the hands of his brother.
Crown Princess Josephine does not go to the safe haven her mother can provide but seeks vengeance for her father. She has distinctive features and can not simply go around her nation as her normal self so her family after hundreds of years of practicing security measures for the royal household created necklaces that changes a person’s appearance while wearing it. While wearing her plain molten rock necklace and activating it with her fire she can change her appearance.  No one outside royal families know how what the real Firecan appearance is so when she takes off her necklace to do a heroic deed no one has inkiling of who she is.  She goes on many adventures in her quest for revenge and quickly changes into her battle attire when trouble calls.
Origin of Powers
Josephine was born with her powers. The Royal families in her world all have some sort of power and are defined by that power. Her grandmother who was Fiercan married into the Poderoso clan and her children gained the powers of Strength and Speed. Although, her father married into the Iglean clan neither Josephine or her brother have demonstrated any ability to manipulate water. The Royal families in this world have had these abilities for as far back as they can remember it is a part of who they are.

  1. I'm impressed with the way you've drawn on pop-culture sources in order to build a mythos surrounding your character. It isn't a cut-and-paste method by any means. The fact that she, among others of the royal household, live hundreds of years in secrecy makes her story very much in tune with the Underworld vampire movies. Except that the roles of the main characters in those productions would be, in effect, flipped in relations to your own characters in the sense that the proper royalty come from the Underworld. Whereas in your storyline its Princess Josephine's outcast uncle who bursts out of it, which gives me a sense of diametrical differentiation between the two possible renderings of this place.

The drive for revenge can be linked to any number of comic book sources, primarily Batman. Likewise, the feminist tactic of gaining "uniqueness" by merely reversing the flow of certain kinds of power from males to a female figure, or castrating the use of powers in them altogether is present to some extent in what would be a Silverlight comic.
And her ability to wield fire can't make me get Avatar out of my head for some reason.

Other heros possessing powers that are innate from their youth would be Superman, Thor, but not many others. Power through inheritance is an integral part of only a handful of characters in the superhero genre. But it is a quality that you seem to have tapped into, weaving it into yours in a very intuitive fashion.

  2. Ah, so I spoke too soon. Now I do have an idea of who Silverlight is!

I'm intrigued by the suggestion that the "royal" families have elemental powers, for example water or fire powers. This of course rings a lot of bells when it comes to the genre, reminding me of characters like the Sub-Mariner and Aquaman, or the Human Torch.

Is royalty in this world a function of having such powers? Are we to assume that only royals have such powers? (Has there been no outbreeding, that is, no mating outside of royalty? That's hard for me to believe. Were I scripting Silverlight, bloodlines would get hopelessly confused, heh heh.)

Q: So, Josephine's looks are known only to other royals? Or to the populace at large? I was a bit confused about the necessity of the disguise.

One thing that I like about this is the way it plays with the archetypal "fairy tale" princess motif. I'm not familiar with the Underworld franchise, so I can't speak to the element Luke is talking about, but the princess motif certainly rings a lot of bells. Perhaps Silverlight is a fairy tale superheroine, with a high fantasy base?

What's interesting to me about this is that there are so many tales of either common women who become princesses or princesses whose identities and birthrights have been hidden from them...but in this case you're talking about a princess who deliberately goes incognito.

  3. PS. Influenced by your Wonder Woman reading?

  4. I guess this is a bit influenced by Wonder Woman reading. Josephine is surrounded by powerful men but it is her birthright as the eldest to eventually rule over them. An idea that does not suit well with the other males in her family. It is only the royals who have powers at least they are the only ones who outwardly state them. There are other people who have powers but they keep in the dark as they are royal just not legitimate. The royals do mate with one another as Josephine is the product of two different royal houses. What I am hoping that makes her stand out is unlike others she has the ability to wield more than one element.
